How to get help when you need it
Alumni tell us that other Cheveners have been the number one resource for support during the return home period. Both fellow alumni from your cohort and older alumni from across the network can help you through the experience.
Fellow alumni were encouraging and always passed possible opportunities along my way. I got my job from networking with a Chevening Alumnus.
My alumni cohort were very helpful in sharing work opportunities and organising meet ups. During these meet ups, we would catch up on life back home, share our common frustrations and also connect each other to job opportunities.
There are a number of Chevening Alumni Associations around the world. These groups can be a great resource for finding fellow Cheveners, getting support from the community, and being involved with alumni activities and events. The map on our website can help you find your local Alumni Association. If there isn’t currently an association in your country, then you can contact your local Embassy or High Commission for guidance on how to connect with the alumni community.
As well as connecting with fellow Cheveners, there are other things you can do:
• Find a way to share your ideas. Don’t let your knowledge be lost if you’re not able to implement it straight away. Consider hosting a presentation evening with other alumni or sharing your findings via a webinar or through LinkedIn.
• Go to your country’s Welcome Home event. Your welcome home event is the single biggest opportunity to build relationships with other alumni and your local Embassy or High Commission. It’s a chance to talk about your time in the UK, share what you’ve learned, and find out about the opportunities available to alumni.
• Join LinkedIn groups for alumni. The Chevening Alumni Network group includes alumni from across the globe, but there may also be groups linked to your local alumni association, so try searching for those too.
