What is a BRP?
What is it, what's on it, and where should you keep it?
A Biometric Residence Permit is proof that you legally reside, work, or study in the UK. The BRP confirms your identity, right to study, and right to public services or other benefits that you may be eligible for.
There is no legal requirement in the UK to carry official ID with you, so please keep your passport and BRP secure, ideally in a safe place in your accommodation. Replacing either document is costly and time-consuming.
Your BRP will include:
Your name, date and place of birth
Your fingerprints and a photo of your face
Your immigration status and any conditions of your stay
Whether you can access public funds, for example benefits and health services
